VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – Officials said alcohol and drugs were involved in a fatal rollover crash in northern Vigo County early Saturday morning.
Just after 1 a.m., Vigo County deputies were called to the area of 42nd Avenue and Wire Street for an accident with entrapment. They arrived to find a black Humvee upside down in a field.
According to witnesses, Kyle Pendergast, of Terre Haute, was driving with six other people in the vehicle in a hayfield when it rolled.
Alyssa Hogue, 19, also of Terre Haute, was thrown from the vehicle and trapped when the vehicle rolled. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A blood test, which is required by Indiana Code, determined Pendergast had a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .108 percent. Police said Pendergast also tested positive for marijuana.
He was arrested and taken to the Vigo County Jail for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, resulting in death.
