INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – It’s a hobby that’s been going strong for more than 100 years, and it certainly hasn’t lost any steam.

Thousands of people from across the country are in Indianapolis this week for the Lionel Collectors Club of America convention.

Toy train collectors brought their best to put together massive displays throughout the Marriott East Conference Center.

“I think there’s something about the sights and sounds. I have a bad day at the office, I go down to my train room. I feel like a kid again, so it’s just like an age of innocence or something. It’s just really cool.” Al Kolis of the Lionel Collectors Club of America told 24-Hour News 8.

“I think it’s something for generations, grandfathers and fathers to share with their children and grandchildren and it really is about the memories that it creates more so than the actual experience of operating the train,” Howard Hitchcock of Lionel, LLC shared.

The collector’s club holds its national convention in a different city each year. The show was also open for the public to enjoy. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
