IFD responds to apartment fire on city’s SE side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Fire Department responded to the scene of a two-story apartment fire on the city’s southeast side.

IFD responded to the fire on Hobart Road at 8:51 p.m. on Monday. Heavy smoke and flames could be seen from the building.

The fire was under control in 30 minutes. The apartment had no working smoke detectors.

IFD said no one was at home at the time of the fire.

Neighbors told IFD that no one legally lives in  the building, but several squatters were occupying an apartment.

Damage was estimated at $60,000.
