MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — A Muncie man faces reckless homicide and other charges stemming from a 2012 car crash that killed an 89-year-old woman.
Tra Hunter Privett was being held on a $20,000 bond following his Friday arrest on charges of reckless homicide and causing death when driving with a controlled substance in the blood.
Authorities say the 20-year-old Privett had an anti-anxiety medication in his system in August 2012 when he crossed a road’s center line and his vehicle collided head-on with a car driven by Betty J. Carey. She died at an Indianapolis hospital five days later.
Deputy Delaware County prosecutor Eric Hoffman tells The Star Press the charges weren’t filed until almost two years after Carey’s death in part because of delays in getting test results and hospital records.
