HANCOCK CO (WISH) —  A 27-year old woman is behind bars in Hancock County, in connection with the murder of 23-year-old Katrina Miller of Indianapolis.

Investigators say Amanda Gonzales faces charges of murder and assisting a criminal. They say she was there when Miller was shot to death in a Hancock County cornfield.

Miller’s oldest sister, Crystal Shelton, spoke with 24-Hour News 8 Monday afternoon.

“If she knew you, and she cared for you, there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for you,” said Shelton.

Shelton says Miller leaves behind a two-year-old daughter, Annabella. Shelton says she had just gained guardianship of her recently.

“I hope they remember the bubbly smiley Katrina, the good mother, the loving sister. Nobody’s perfect, but nobody deserves this at all,” said Shelton.

Court documents filed Monday show investigators arrested Amanda Gonzales for murder and assisting a criminal.

They show Gonzales told friends Ronnie Westbrook ‘got mad because some drugs came up missing out of his room,’ and that ‘he threatened to kill her and Katrina Miller if he didn’t get them back.’

Documents show Gonzales told friends, that she, Westbrook and a man named Joe Meyers, brought Miller to a Hancock County cornfield. They say Gonzales told a friend Meyers made Miller get down on her knees, and shot Miller in the back of the neck.

According to court documents, friends told police Gonzales told them Westbrook found the drugs in his room when they got back.

One friend told investigators, according to documents, ‘she thought Gonzales took and hid the drugs because she was mad at Katrina Miller for finding her and Ronnie Westbrook in bed together.’

“I hope justice prevails just as quick as everything else has happened. She deserves that much,” said Shelton.

And to those involved, Shelton says, she hopes they realize the impact of this loss.

“I hope they think about this every single day, and remember exactly what they did to my sister. Then they need to think about the little girl they took away from her. She has to grow up without her mother and that’s not fair,” said Shelton.

Detectives say they are still working the case.

24-Hour News 8 will continue to follow this story as it develops.

Services for Katrina Miller are set for Tuesday at Christ Fellowship on S Sherman Avenue.
