NEW ALBANY, Ind. (AP) — A southern Indiana judge heard graphic murder details during the sentencing of a man who pleaded guilty to killing a woman and burying her body in his backyard.

The details in 35-year-old Stephanie Kirk’s killing came Monday during the first day of William Clyde Gibson III’s sentencing hearing in the Charlestown woman’s death.

The 56-year-old Gibson pleaded guilty to murder last month in Kirk’s strangulation death. Her remains were found buried behind his New Albany home in April 2012.

The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Kentucky, reports Gibson’s public defenders were expected to call witnesses starting Tuesday morning in Floyd Superior Court.

Gibson was previously convicted of killing two other women, including one whose mutilated body was found in his garage eight days before Kirk’s body was unearthed in his backyard.
