CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard along with the local chamber of commerce and INDOT will announce details of a new, city-wide campaign Thursday to “address concerns voiced by businesses along the U.S. 31 corridor.”

A stretch of the highway in Hamilton County has been closed since April and will remain shut down through Thanksgiving as part of INDOT’s ongoing project to upgrade U.S. 31 from Indianapolis to South Bend.

There are roads to access businesses along the corridor, but some owners have said the closure has still hurt their bottom line.

The owner of Jersey’s Cafe told 24-Hour News 8  in July he’s had to significantly reduce his staff. The owner of nearby J-Razzo’s said lunch sales are down 50-percent.

Thursday’s announcement is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Officials will also offer updates on how the construction project is moving along. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
