SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — Scott Schuck, of Shelbyville, has been charged with murder, according to Shelby County online court records updated at the end of the business day Thursday. Schuck is being held on $10 million bond.
A probable cause affidavit shows Schuck confessed to striking and strangling his girlfriend, Rebecca Cassidy, after an argument in April 2010. Investigators found human remains and a purse with Cassidy’s identification in Schuck’s backyard.
Family members of Rebecca Cassidy and Schuck showed up at the Shelby County Courthouse on Thursday, anticipating a court hearing for Schuck. Although the prosecutor’s office told 24-Hour News 8 no court hearing would happen on Thursday, online court records now indicate he did have a hearing.
Cassidy’s family said they’re thankful to see an arrest made in the case after years of waiting and wondering.
“Detective Dwenger, we’re thankful for him staying up on top of the case and finally arresting somebody,” said Cassidy’s aunt Cheryl Woolen.
On Tuesday, Scott Schuck had denied any wrongdoing and told reporters police would not find anything in his backyard.
Schuck’s next court appearance is September 24.
