INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police said a newborn baby was found alive in a trash can inside of a business on the city’s west side on Friday night.

According to IMPD officials, police received a call from employees at United Technology Carrier Corporation, on the corner of W. Morris Street and Girls School Road, Friday night around 8:15 p.m.

They said they found a baby inside of a trash can inside of a bathroom in the building.

Police said the baby was taken to Riley in critical condition. The baby was later upgraded to good condition, according to IMPD.

Officers were not sure what the baby’s gender was as of Friday night.

A fire station is directly across the street from the business. The Indiana Safe Haven Law allows a person to give up an unwanted infant anonymously to a hospital emergency room, fire station or police station in Indiana.

IMPD detectives with the Child Abuse Unit are at the scene speaking with witnesses and canvassing the area to learn more information about this incident.

Detectives urge anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers of Indiana at (317) 262-TIPS (8477) or text “INDYCS” plus tip information to 274637 (CRIMES). provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
