NEW CASTLE, Ind. (AP) — An Indiana man charged in the death of a fellow inmate last year in the New Castle Correctional Facility has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.

The Star Press reports that 22-year-old Taylor Baughn of Evansville was sentenced in Henry Circuit Court on Thursday under the terms of an agreement with prosecutors.

Baughn was originally charged with murder in the death of 37-year-old Jeremiah Taylor in February 2013. But last month Baughn agreed to plead guilty to a reduced charge of aggravated battery.

Authorities say Baughn struck Taylor in the head repeatedly at the bottom of a prison stairwell.

Baughn told a state police detective he had been told Taylor had “snitched” on another inmate.

Baughn said Thursday in court that he hadn’t intended to kill Taylor.
