IMPD squad car struck, officer injured

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer was injured during a crash early Saturday morning.

According to IMPD dispatchers the officer’s car was struck on North Pine Street and Michigan Street around 3:57 a.m.

The police car was traveling northbound on Pine Street when it was hit on the side by a vehicle driving eastbound on Michigan Street.

The officer was taken to a local hospital. His condition was not immediately clear, but dispatch said he was alert and talking at the scene.

The person who hit the vehicle ran from the scene.

Police searched the area and located the person who fled around 5 a.m. He was taken into custody.

The officer had a suspect in the car when the squad car was hit. The suspects condition was not clear, but was expected to be OK.
