INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – On Saturday an Indianapolis Fire Department firefighter was nationally recognized for his service with Indycar Safety Team.

Lt. Mike Perry was given the Championship Driver’s Association’s Safety Award. IFD stated in a release that only six other members on the Holmarto Saftey Team have been awarded this honor. The team is made up of 28 members.

The 26 year veteran of IFD Ladder 13 has been a member since 2002. The organization honors “Unsung Heroes” that have been able to contribute to the safety of drivers.

Other members of IFD say that Mike is a true example of teamwork, leadership and using his words to take action.
