WHITLEY COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – A man accused of trying to run over an Indiana State Trooper has been captured.

Police spent Tuesday afternoon looking for Anthony Michael McClellan, 23, in the area of State Road 109 and County Road 700 North. That’s near the Whitley and Noble County line. Residents were asked to stay indoors as police searched for McClellan, who police said left the scene of a battery and then tried to run over an Indiana State Trooper.

According to Indiana State Police public information officer Ron Galaviz, McClellan is accused of committing a battery outside of Albion Tuesday afternoon. Galaviz said the suspect left the scene of that crime and when an Indiana State Trooper came across McClellan’s vehicle, McClellan tried to run over the trooper. The trooper then opened fire on McClellan.

Galaviz said neither the officer nor McClellan appeared to have been injured in the incident and McClellan took off on foot. Police set up a perimeter of a mile or two and used an airplane in their search for him.

A daycare at the Big Lake Church of God, which is located right by the intersection of State Road 109 and 700 N, was on lockdown for some time. Just after 4 p.m., parents were able to take their children home.
