INDIANAPOLIS – Before Mayor Ballard took part in Tuesday night’s National Night Out events, 24-Hour News 8 sat down with him to talk more about his crime plan.

In it, he proposed adding 280 more officers, but not the 500 more recommended by Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Instead the mayor said we need to look at what we’ve been doing the past 40 years and change it.

Everything from prevention, to schooling and pre-k programs, to helping offenders themselves better their lives. He said we cannot “police ourselves out of this.” provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
