INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Mayor Greg Ballard went to school with IPS Superintendent Dr. Lewis Ferebee Wednesday morning.

Ballard continues to push his program to get more kids in preschool in hopes of cutting crime.

Dr. Ferebee joined the mayor at IPS 55. Ballard says preschool is the first step in making sure children can stay out of trouble.

Ballard says reaching children this early can help address the root causes of crime. Under the mayor’s plan, he would nearly double preschool scholarships and expand eligibility for low-income families. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
