Items stolen from monument recovered, arrest made

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – An arrest has been made after a portion of a monument honoring fallen soldiers was stolen from at the end of July.

It happened near The Landing in northwest Terre Haute on July 31. Now, the Terre Haute Police Department has made an arrest and recovered the cannon and cannonballs that were stolen from the monument.

On Aug. 1, officers received a call that led them to recover the stolen cannon found near the Cannon Inn.

On Aug. 6, Jack Akers, 28, turned himself in to police and turned over the missing cannonballs. He was arrested for theft and taken to the Vigo County Jail.
