INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police have identified the man who was shot and killed on the city’s northeast side early Thursday.

Shortly before 4 a.m. police received a report of a person down in the the street at Roosevelt and Valley Avenues. That scene is just west of the I-70 and the Rural-Keystone exit.

When police arrived they say they found Herbert Dillard, 34, dead in the street along with a number of shell casings.

Police said Dillard had been shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators were called to the scene to collect evidence and canvas the area for possible witnesses.

The coroner has ruled Dillard’s death a homicide.

No suspect has been identified and police say they have no motive at this time.
