OWEN COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Indiana State Police arrested a Terre Haute couple on a warrant for animal neglect charges on Thursday.

Jimmy J. Ornduff, 43, and Stacey L. Ornduff, 41, were arrested after officers found nearly 40 neglected rabbits and guinea pigs inside an abandoned  trailer and outdoor tarp roofed structure.

On June 2, the ISP Putnamville Post received a tip about possible animal neglect at 512 and 514 Croft Road in Coal City. After receiving a warrant, police searched the Ornduff’s property.

ISP said troopers seized 31 rabbits from the tarp roofed structure and four rabbits and two guinea pigs from the abandoned trailer. Police said in some of the cages, there were five to six inches of feces covering the bottom of the cage.

Investigators believe a couple of rabbits may have died before police received the tip, which initiated this animal neglect investigation.

The animals were taken to Helping Pawz Animal Rescue and Outreach pending the judicial process.

Both Ornduffs are facing one count of misdemeanor animal neglect. The two were taken to the Vigo County Jail Thursday.
