INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Miami Heat player Greg Oden has been released from police custody but is wearing a GPS monitoring device.
Police in Lawrence arrested Oden early Thursday morning. Police say he confessed to hitting his ex-girlfriend.
Officials say they found the woman lying on a bed with blood on her face at a home in Geist. According to a police report, Oden told officers “things got out of control” during an argument.
“Mr. Oden was very cooperative with officers and the entire investigation,” Lawrence Police Department Captain Gary Woodruff said. “He’s being charged with a preliminary count of misdemeanor battery.”
Oden was taken first overall in the 2007 NBA draft. He won three state basketball championships at Lawrence North, played a season at Ohio State and most recently suited up for the Miami Heat.
He was released from police custody Thursday evening after posting $100,000 bond.Hide
