INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police said two people have died following a crash near Geist Reservoir Saturday night.

According to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officials, the crash happened on Fall Creek Road and Sand Key Lane around 10:20 p.m. Two people died and a third person was taken to the hospital, according to police.

Officers located a black Cadillac SUV and a blue Ford Explorer that crashed head-on. The Cadillac was engulfed in flames. Indianapolis Fire Department put the fire out quickly when they arrived.

Police say the female was removed from the Cadillac by other by-standers and transported to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital for minor injuries.

The driver and passenger in the back seat of the Ford Explorer were pronounced dead at the scene. The front seat passenger was transported to St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital in serious condition. No other occupants were in the vehicle.

IMPD detectives believe the driver of the Cadillac was driving southbound on Fall Creek road and the Ford Explorer was traveling northbound on Fall Creek Road. They say the Cadillac crossed the center line and hit the Ford Explorer head-on.

The driver of the Cadillac will have her blood tested for alcohol or other drugs as a standard procedure following a fatal crash. However, investigators believe that alcohol may be a factor.
