The Indiana State Department of Agriculture awarded Indiana Pork $15k in Livestock Promotion dollars toward the initiative. For every “Make It A Meal” deal sold at the Indiana State Fair Pork tents, one ground pork meal (1/4 pound) will be donated to Indiana Food banks. The “Make It A Meal” is an upsale on an entrée item. For an additional $3, customers can get applesauce, chips and a refillable soft drink or water with their entrée.
Last year they sold just over 29,000 “Make It A Meal” deals. This year their goal is to sell 30,000 which would result in a donation of 7,500 pounds of ground pork – or 30,000 quarter pound meals. The donation check will be written to Feeding Indiana’s Hungry, the association that represents Indiana food banks. The food banks are always seeking protein so this is a much needed item. The ISDA awarded us the funds to spend toward the promotion of the initiative and the purchase of product after the fair.
