FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) – Wednesday is the first day of school in Fishers and after a child was hit on Monday night police are urging drivers to be cautious.
The child was hit at the crosswalk on Olio Road. That area is a traffic controlled pedestrian crossing, which stops traffic if people need to cross. But if distracted, drivers can miss the warning.
Police say it’s time to start paying extra attention.
“Be patient, pay attention, have a heightened sense of awareness when they’re driving, especially in the school zones and around the bus stops”, said Sergeant Tom Weger with the Fishers Police Department.
Fishers Police say they’ll have extra officers in school zones too.
As for the child hit, he suffered several fractures and will remain at Riley Hospital at IU Health for a few more days.
