Pedestrian killed after being hit by train near Summitville

SUMMITVILLE, Ind. (WISH) – Police were on the scene of pedestrian struck by a train near Summitville, Ind..

According to 24-Hour News 8’s news partners at the Herald Bulletin the accident happened just after 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The crossing is at County Road 150 East and Zell Road.

A man from Summitville was killed. Police did not know his identity as of Wednesday evening, but residents say the man lived nearby.

Madison County deputies and the Summitville fire department diverted traffic from the scene for a short time.

One woman in the neighborhood told the Herald Bulletin that train whistles could be heard from one end of town to the other and the train crosses their pretty frequently.
