INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Work that began on the Illinois Street bridge last year is finally finished.
The bridge has been closed to motorists and the public for months near Fall Creek. Officials with the Indianapolis Department of Public Works said last week they anticipated the road to be open on or around August 15.
Although the bridge has reopened there will still be work associated with the project left to do, including tree planting along the bank in October.
Officials say the project stayed on schedule and that there were minor cost overruns of about 3 percent. That’s mostly due to the need to replace more of the limestone fascia that was anticipated.
