GREENSBURG, Ind. (WISH) — Police in Greensburg say a man was arrested this week for beating and confining his girlfriend in an apartment as she screamed for help.

Court documents show the victim told police 26-year-old Joseph Balser got upset when she said she was leaving. She told police he pushed her against a wall, tried to shove her into a closet and cornered her in a bathroom shower. She also told officers Balser forcefully squeezed her face and threw her over his shoulder to prevent her from leaving.

Balser told police the couple had gotten only into a verbal fight. He also said he may have bruised her arms when he tried to pick her off the ground the night before because she was intoxicated, 24-Hour News 8’s news partners at The Greenburg Daily News report.

Police arrested Balser on preliminary domestic battery and criminal confinement charges. He was taken to the Decatur County Jail and held without bond.
