EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Evansville police say a 24-year-old bicyclist died following a verbal altercation with a man in a car.

Police say the shooting occurred about 3:25 a.m. Saturday. The Evansville Courier & Press reports officers responding reports of shots fired found Eric Brookins in the street. He was pronounced dead at Deaconess Hospital. The Vanderburgh County coroner’s office says Brookins died from a single gunshot wound to the heart.

A witness who was with Brookins says the shooting occurred after a man in a car yelled at them as they were riding bicycles.
