INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indian community in Indianapolis celebrated it’s country’s 68th Independence Day.

India Day featured a parade, food, vendors and performances on Monument Circle on Sunday.

Organizers said the celebration provides cultural understanding for younger generations who might not be as attached to their ethnic history.

“Some of them are born here, some are born there but still they don’t really keep in touch with what’s going on there, what is really their culture because they tend to be turning toward western culture it’s good but we try to make them learn, understand our culture too,” Rejimon Varghese, President of India Association of Indianapolis, said.

This was the fifth year for India Day. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
