“Cold Justice” Hires Vigo Deputy

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – When it comes to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office and TNT’s “Cold Justice,” they make a pretty good team.  Twice, the crime reality show has come to Vigo County, and twice Vigo County cold cases have been solved, including one confession.  A Vigo County deputy is going to take on an added role with “Cold Justice,” taking his talents to other communities facing unsolved murders.

Deputy Derek Fell is the crime scene technician with the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office.  He works with detectives as they work together to solve a wide range of cases.  Deputy Fell recently accepted an offer from TNT’s “Cold Justice” and will serve as a guest detective.

“Hopefully, they saw something in me that they felt was a positive thing and that could maybe help the show,” said Deputy Fell.

Deputy Fell says having already appeared twice on the “Cold Justice”, he feels he’s pretty well prepared for his new role as guest detective on the show.  He says he sees himself as a liaison on the show, between the show itself and the detectives they’ll be assisting hoping to solve these cases.

“I was a little intimidated not knowing what to expect from a national network TV show coming in and helping us work a case,” Fell admitted.  “Being on that side, hopefully I can help other investigators or people from other agencies maybe feel at ease a little quicker to enable them to do their job even better.”

Deputy Fell says he can’t quite share where he’s off to for his first case on “Cold Justice.”  What he can tell us is he’s excited for a great opportunity to help crack unsolved murders.

“I’m honored that I was asked to be a part of it, and I hope that I can do something positive not just for the show, but the families.  When you work these cold cases, all the paperwork, all the case files doesn’t hold a candle to the moment when you actually meet the families that you’re working for.  That’s when things really change and become real.”

Deputy Fell will begin appearing in “Cold Justice” episodes next season.  That will be season three for this series.

He will work for “Cold Justice” on his off time from the sheriff’s office, where he will continue his duties on a full-time basis.
