Arrest made in Fort Wayne murder of 78-year-old woman

FORT WAYNE, Ind, (WANE) – Fort Wayne police have arrested a man they say is a suspect in the death of a 78-year-old woman who was found dead in her home on August 8.

Police have charged 23-year-old Zachary D. Reinders with murder, felony murder, and robbery in connection got the death of Diane Woods. Family members had been unable to reach Woods for several days. She was found dead in her home in the 5700 block of Le Steele Boulevard after a family member went to check on her. Police arrived on scene, she was declared dead by paramedics and the death was investigated as suspicious.

An autopsy performed the following day determined that she had died from blunt force trauma and her death was ruled a homicide.

Reinders, of Fort Wayne, was arrested for the murder of Woods on Tuesday by the Fort Wayne Police Department Gang and Violent Crimes Unit. He was being held without bond at the Allen County Jail.

Woods’ death is the 9th homicide in Allen County in 2014.
