INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A federal prosecutor with 25 years of experience has been appointed the interim head of the criminal division for the Southern District of Indiana.
Fifty-six-year-old Winfield Ong will supervise attorneys who work cases in fraud, public corruption, child exploitation, human trafficking and other criminal areas.
Acting U.S. Attorney Josh Minkler announced the appointment Monday.
Ong has specialized in white-collar cases, including the trial of Tim Durham, who was sentenced to 50 years in prison in 2012 after a federal jury convicted him of securities fraud, conspiracy and 10 counts of wire fraud for operating a Ponzi scheme with his Akron, Ohio-based Fair Finance company.
Joe Hogsett stepped down as U.S. attorney at the end of July after four years in the position.
