TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – As students return to Indiana State University in Terre Haute, some criminals have headed back to campus as well.

This week, University Police reported several break-ins to cars on campus. They said the majority have happened at night in poorly lit areas.

So far only the north side parking lots have seen the rise in crime.

“When the students return, a lot of them have a lot of valuable equipment in their cars,” University Police Chief Joe Newport said. “People that are prone to come on campus and look for items like that, they know this is a peak time for things to be left in cars.”
