INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A major project is planned for a building that dates back to the 1850’s.

Leaders from the City of Indianapolis have big plans for Union Station. On Wednesday morning the City’s Department of Metropolitan Development announced it will take more than $3.7-million to make many repairs to the building.

The building now houses a hotel, some restaurants and a charter school.

The city says it is working on possibly getting grants and selling off portions of Union Station property, like the greyhound bus station, to pay for the repairs.

The Department of Metropolitan Development also plans to meet with CSX about how they can help with the improvements. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
