GREENSBURG, Ind. (WISH) – A man who police say stole money from a child’s Girl Scout Cookie fund will face additional charges for drug related charges in another county.

30-year-old James Sparks is believed to have stolen $300 from his girlfriend’s daughter’s Girl Scout Cookie fund sometime in January.

24-Hour News 8’s news partners at the Greensburg Daily News say the mother reported the stolen money. She told police that Sparks lied about being laid off from his job and he was looking for a ride to his sick relative.

Deputies were unable to reach Sparks because he was in the custody of Jackson County for other unrelated charges. Sparks admitted to taking the money and told investigators he planned to pay the money back on his next pay check.

Sparks was found not guilty for the drug charges. However, Sparks failed to appear in court on March 17 prompting the issue of an arrest warrant.

Sparks will return to Jackson County to face charges there after his appearance in Decatur County. Sparks was held at the Decatur County Jail on a $750 bond.
