High water on roads hampers fire crews

BLACKFORD COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Just after 9:30 a.m. Friday, a business in northern Blackford County erupted in flames. Fire equipment had difficulty reaching the business due to high water on surrounding roadways.

Chopper 8 flew over the house fire near State Road 3 and and State Road 18. In addition to the wrecker service and garage being on fire, aerial footage showed a boat and car on fire next to the business.

According to Emergency Management officials, the flood waters prevented equipment from getting to the fire as quickly as they ordinarily would have.  They also say firefighters are having difficulty getting enough water on the fire as water supplies are low.

One person was taken to the hospital because of the fire, but there is no word on their condition.
