GARY, Ind. (AP) — A northwestern Indiana state senator plans to keep up the push to allow more land-based casinos despite Gov. Mike Pence repeating his opposition to such a move.

Democratic Sen. Earline Rogers of Gary says she hopes the Republican governor might change his mind after seeing more details of how communities are being hurt by declining casino revenues in the face of greater competition from neighboring states.

Rogers tells the Post-Tribune she wants to see casinos treated like other businesses.

Pence said last week in Evansville he didn’t want to change the law that keeps Indiana’s Ohio River and Lake Michigan casinos on riverboats. Total state casino tax revenues fell by 13 percent during the last fiscal year.
