The Indianapolis Zoo offers two great events in September. Celebrate with the Hispanic Heritage Fiesta on September 21 then return to Meet a Hero, Be a Hero on September 27.Carla Knapp, public relations director, Indianapolis Zoo and Bob Whitt, executive director of White River State Park have all the details!

Hispanic Heritage Fiesta

Noon-4pm • Sunday, Sept. 21

At Hispanic Heritage Fiesta you can kick off National Hispanic Heritage Month with a trip to the Zoo for the annual Hispanic Heritage Fiesta presented in partnership with La Voz de Indiana! Celebrate the culture and traditions of Latin America through a variety of special afternoon activities fit for the whole family! National Hispanic Heritage Month officially begins Sept. 15 each year — the anniversary of independence for the Latin American countries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. During our celebration, our guests will enjoy festive decorations, activities, Latin-inspired food and more! Create culturally themed crafts and take a swing at a piñata every hour. Great live music will be in the plaza. And, the Zoo will also spotlight animals native to Latin American countries, and guests who follow the scavenger hunt clues to find all the animals will receive a special gift.

Meet-A-Hero, Be-A-Hero

10:30am-12:30pm • Saturday, Sept. 27
Visitors to the Zoo will have a rare opportunity to meet some of the world’s best known and most respected conservationists. Meet Pat Wright and the other Prize finalists and mingle with award winning actress and conservationist Jane Alexander. These stars of conservation will be able to chat and sign autographs for guests on their very own collector cards. There will be games and activities for children and a free limited edition set of Conservation Hero Collectors Cards for the first 2,000 guests. This family-friendly event will help teach visitors how everyone can help save wild animals by helping save the environment. This event is free for Zoo members and included with regular Zoo admission.
