VINCENNES, Ind. (WTHI) – Vincennes University announced plans to build a new $4.35 million student center after the bids were approved by the VU Board of Trustees Wednesday night.

Companies awarded contracts for the project are CDI, Inc., Terre Haute, $2,749,100 for general construction; Wabash Utilities, Vincennes, $219,200 for site preparation; Peyronnin Construction, Evansville, $932,200 for mechanical construction, and HEF Services, Terre Haute, $457,300 for electrical construction.

“We are excited about this opportunity to build this new student union. It will connect to the current Physical Education Complex, the Aquatic Center, and Recreation Center, and will create a mall-effect for our students,” said VU President Dick Helton.

Helton also stated the new student center will be used as a recruiting tool but will more importantly serve the needs of the students at Vincennes University.

Groundbreaking is expected to happen soon. Officials estimate construction will last between 13 and 15 months. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
