INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police believe a vehicle running a red light caused a crash that trapped someone inside a wrecked vehicle early Saturday morning.

The crash happened around 3:45 a.m. at 38th and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. streets and shut down the westbound lanes of West 38th Street. A car and van collided, but it’s unclear which vehicle ran the light. Three men were in the vehicles, and it took firefighters about an hour to free one of them from the wreckage.

Everyone was expected to be OK, though all three were taken to Indianapolis hospitals for treatment.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
