INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police said a child was injured after an incident on S. Chester Avenue on the city’s east side Sunday afternoon.

According to IMPD officers, the boy was sitting inside of a house on S. Chester Avenue, near the intersection of Washington and Sherman, when something hit him.

Police said a “projectile” that may have come from a bullet went through an outside air conditioning unit attached to a window of the home and hit the boy.  Officers said they don’t know if the projectile was from a pellet gun or a firearm.

An IMPD officer at the scene said they were treating this incident like the bullet was a “live round.”

The boy was taken to Riley Hospital for Children. Police did not say what condition he was listed in as of Sunday afternoon.

Police said the boy was under 12 years old, but have not released his exact age.
