Trouble erupts at church event meant to keep teens out of trouble

LOCK IN

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Metro Police were called out twice to a teen lock-in event at Light of the World Christian Church.  The event which began at 8 p.m. Sunday was designed to provide 12 hours of positive activities at the church located in the 4600 block of Michigan Road.

Police were first called out around 10 p.m. Sunday when the event reached it’s capacity of 1500 youth.  Faced with potential fire code violations, another 400 youth were turned away.  The teens outside the church grew upset and refused to leave.  The group reportedly got a little out of hand and police had to use pepper spray to disperse the crowd.

Around 3:45 am Monday, police were called back on a report of a disturbance. According to the church’s youth director, a few people at the event got into a verbal and then physical fight.  As punches were thrown, the youth involved were sent home.  No arrests were made and there were no reports of injury.
