INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Wayne Township Schools on Monday released a statement and contacted families about a teenager found dead behind a home on Sunday.
Sunday, an Indianapolis man found a burned body behind his home. Police later said it was a 15-year-old girl.
Although the girl’s name has not been released, Wayne Township Schools said she attended Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center.
“We are heartbroken to learn that a burned 15-year-old female body found behind an Indy home (Sunday) has been identified as a BDNGC student,” the school said in a statement. “IMPD is still investigating and has not released her name. We will cooperate in any way possible to assist in the investigation. We will have additional counselors available for students and staff who may need assistance.”
24-Hour News 8 spoke to the man who found the 15-year-old’s body. Police believe the girl was killed elsewhere and was taken to the man’s home because it looked vacant.
Police say they plan to release the girl’s name on Tuesday. The school district says it will have extra counselors available to everyone for the rest of the week.
