WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Purdue University is using the tailgate lots in a different manner this season.

This year parts of the intramural lot will not be used for parking.

The fields are being left empty so they can be properly irrigated. The tailgate fields can hold up to 2,500 cars. However, Purdue Associate Athletics Director Tom Schott said only about 400 cars parked in the lots on Saturday.

Schott said the softball fields will not be used this year, but the soccer fields could be available when Michigan State visits Purdue in October. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
