LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — Two Indiana Conservation Officers were able to find six kayakers who got lost on the Pigeon River near the border of LaGrange and Steuben counties early Monday morning.

According to the Indiana DNR, the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department got a 911 call that six people were lost and near exhaustion without any lights on the river some time after midnight.

Two conservation officers were able to determine the location of the 911 call and found the kayakers in a heavily wooded area at approximately 3 a.m.

All six were suffering from the early stages of hypothermia due to being exposed to the cold water and the nighttime air.

One woman had to be led on foot to a waiting DNR vehicle, while the other five followed one of the officers and paddled to a nearby river access area.

While waiting for a ride home, one of the kayakers suffered a minor seizure, but he refused medical treatment.
