FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – At least two suspects used a hammer to break glass and get inside a Fort Wayne liquor store early Tuesday morning.

Police were called to Belmont Beverage, located at 2613 South Anthony Boulevard, around 1:15 a.m. for a reported armed robbery.

Investigators said the liquor store was closed and two employees were inside at the time of the robbery. Police said one employee was cleaning up for the night and another was counting money and receipts.

According to police, two masked men broke the glass in a door, crawled inside, showed guns, and took an undisclosed amount of cash.

Initially, police were told about possible gunfire during the robbery but later determined the employees likely heard the hammer hitting and breaking the glass.

No injuries were reported.

A police K-9 officer tracked down a nearby alley, but police said the suspects likely got away in a waiting vehicle.

Possible suspect descriptions were not immediately available overnight.

The incident is under investigation.
