INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis father was arrested after his 3-month-old daughter died Wednesday, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officials said.

Christopher Schafer was arrested on preliminary charges of murder, neglect resulting in the death of a child and battery to a child resulting in death. IMPD officials said the baby girl’s autopsy revealed she died from blunt force trauma to the head and left leg.

Police officers were called to the 6800 block of Brendon Way South Drive just after 1 a.m. Wednesday. The baby was unresponsive and taken to Community North Hospital, where she died.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will determine what charges Schafer will face.
