IMPD wants campaign to unite to go worldwide

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – This Friday Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is calling on the city of Indianapolis, the state and the world to show support of all officers by wearing a special T-shirt.

I-Team 8 looks deeper into how one police department is working to unite worldwide.

The sale of these T-shirts quickly went viral, all over the world.

The Fraternal Order of Police confirms Wednesday they’ve sold over 11,000 T-shirts in 47 states excluding West Virginia, Mississippi, North Dakota and Montana. But this goes beyond the U.S.

The FOP has also received shirt orders from officers in four foreign countries: the UK, Canada, Spain and Australia.

But the latest video of support is homegrown – and involves departments from all over Marion County. It was released Wednesday and first to 24-Hour News 8.

This Friday is a day of unity. There’s a unity rally on monument circle from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on the south spoke.

To be a part of the unity rally anyone can buy the T-shirt for $15 at FOP Lodge 86 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or online. Proceeds go to the Indianapolis Police Foundation.

We’ve documented this movement since the family of Major Davis Jr. said Officer Perry Renn “shouldn’t have gotten out of the car” that night he was shot and killed.

IMPD says it’s now turned into a movement about officers getting out of their cars, and building relationships within our city.
