INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A ceremony to remember all of the fallen officers killed in the line of duty here in Indiana was held on Tuesday evening.
The annual service took place at the Capitol downtown. It was a beautiful night, for a somber ceremony outside the capitol.
Several law enforcement agencies came together, to honor the lives of officers who made the ultimate sacrifice for our community. Bagpipes played, and flags waved.
A yard sign showed the dark reminder of the lives lost defending our state. 412 officers gone in all, 9 of those are just from last year.
Several leaders and community members came out to pay their respects.
Governor Mike Pence gave the keynote address.
“It’s a way for us to especially let the families know that we appreciate as a law enforcement family, their supreme sacrifice that their loved ones made. As well as letting them know that they’ll never be forgotten as part of that law enforcement family,” said Pence.
There were family members there representing each fallen officer.
It was also a time to remind surviving family members of just how much they still mean to the law enforcement family.
