FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A man is dead after a shooting in Fort Wayne Monday night.

Police received multiple 911 calls after residents in the 2100 block of Eby Avenue heard numerous gunshots around 10:15 p.m.

Officers arrived and found a man in the passenger seat of a van who had been shot several times. The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead by hospital staff.

The victim’s name has not been released.

Investigators placed numbered placards next to several dozen shell casings in the street. At least 45 casings were marked around the van and several feet away.

Police said they were investigating the possibility of multiple shooters due to several different types of casings being located in the street. It’s unclear if the victim fired any weapons.

City police spokesperson Officer John Chambers said no arrests have been made. Possible suspect descriptions were not available early Tuesday morning.

Chambers said several witnesses described vehicles leaving the area shortly after the shooting. He said it was unclear if any of the vehicles were involved.

One home was hit by a bullet after a woman reported a broken window. She was not hurt.

A vehicle next to the van that was hit with multiple bullets was also damaged.

The incident is under investigation.
