BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) -The Western Boone School Corporation will have a new school resource officer for its school system this year.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office and the school system came up with a mutual proposal and the school board approved the request for the resource officer on Wednesday night.

“This is a great opportunity to enter into this partnership with Western Boone.  We appreciate the hard work on both Dr. Hendrix and the Western Boone School Board in making this become a reality.  The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is passionate about the safety of our kids in this county as well as providing an officer in the school systems to create that positive law enforcement-student relationship at an early age,” Boone County Sheriff Michael T. Nielsen said.

“We have always had a great working relationship with Western Boone School Corporation having an SRO in the building full time will only strengthen that relationship,” Boone County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Debbie Martin said.

School officials said the details will be ironed out by the end of this week and the school resource officer will be in the schools as soon as possible.
