PENDLETON, Ind. (WISH) – A body found on Sept. 6 near an overgrown pond has been identified, according to authorities.

24-Hour News 8’s news partners at The Herald Bulletin say the man is 48-year-old Jerry Scott Elliott of Greenfield. The body was found on private property near I-69.

Dental records helped positively ID the body. The body was badly decomposed when it was found. However, X-rays from Elliott’s jawbone were positively ID by a forensic odontologist.

Pendleton Chief of Police Marc Farrer believed the body was Elliott, but needed confirmation from the coroner.

The department will continue to investigate his death.

Indiana inmate records revealed Elliott served time in prison for strangulation in Elkhart County, he was released in October 2013.
